Statistical Estimation vs. Exact Census

National governments do not conduct real-time censuses of living first names on a continuous daily basis. Our figures are mathematically derived by combining historical birth registration records (1880–present from the U.S. Social Security Administration) with World Health Organization cohort survival curves and demographic life tables.

Confidence Intervals

• Common Names (Rank 1–500): Estimated margin of error is typically within ±5%.
• Moderate Frequency Names (Rank 501–5,000): Estimated margin of error is within ±10%.
• Rare / Edge Names: Estimated margin of error is within ±15% to ±25%.
